Downtown Orlando Food & Wine Fest - 2015

2015 Downtown Orlando Food & Wine Fest

The tradition continued as more than 20,000 foodies and wine lovers experienced unique local cuisine paired with wines from around the globe at this year’s 2015 Downtown Orlando Food & Wine Fest.
The Seventh Annual Downtown Food & Wine Fest has established itself as a signature event for Orlando. Thirty top local restaurants were scheduled to present the culinary tastings that has made The Fest the perfect combination of divine food, unique wines, and headliner entertainment right in the heart of downtown.
In the second year covering the event our taste buds were anticipating for the return of 2014 Golden Fork Award winner’s Siro and Smiling Bison, and premier tastings from  Primo, Marlow’s Tavern, and Tibby’s.
The 2015 culinary lineup did not disappoint with many mouthwatering dishes. The Foodie Award which recognized the best food item of the Downtown Food and Wine Fest for taste, unique flavor, and culinary excellence going to Marlow’s Tavern for their melt in your mouth southern sensation of Shrimp and Grits. The 2015 Sweet Treat award winner was presented to Primo at JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lake for their whimsical rendition of a Cannoli Gelato Cone. Finally, for the third year in a row, Siro at Marriott World Center received the 2015 Best Show Award, which recognized the fun factor, overall energy, and crowd vibe. Other fabulous tastings included Cooper’s Hawk Bourbon Jambalaya, Copper Canyon’s Fillet with Bleu Cheese Butter & Chilean Red Wine Reduction, Peach Valley’s Apple Fritters, Christner’s  Ahi Tuna with Mushrooms, and Hawker’s Pork Belly Bao.
The 2015 wine lineup satisfied all wino’s deepest desires with samplings from the Jackson Family Wines, Kendall-Jackson, Chloe Wine, and the Foley Family Wines. The Wine Taster’s Club Lanyard was a great options for wine lovers with Club members receiving five 2 oz. pours of their choice throughout the Fest and a souvenir lanyard.

Overall, it was a great event with a little something for everyone.  Already looking forward to next year!

Arenal, Costa Rica Review - Pura Vida

The Worlds Largest Paint Party. Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL hosted a 2-day, 3 stage festival. DJs like Kaskade and Diplo

helped the stadium bring in over 60.000 fans. Life in Color turned small paint parties into a thing of the past by creating a bigger and better venue. There were huge stages on both ends of the venue with one small (local) stage in between and… an awesome lit up ferris wheel for the people who were patient enough to wait in the line.

At the paint factory stage we saw a few different genres of dance music by DJs Caked Up, Madeon, Dvbbs, Bingo Players, Bro Safari, and Adventure Club. The highlight of the stage was most definitely seen during Diplo’s set (an american DJ, music producer, rapper, and songwriter).  On the other side of the festival, at the downtown stage, we experienced a more bass filled party with Borgeous, The Chainsmokers, Carnage, Headhunterz, and my favorites-Borgore, Kaskade, and Juicy J (an american rapper and record producer). The main stages were extravagant- covered in lights and shooting out fireworks- helping to add to the effects of the paint blasts. The small local stage and the even smaller local tent didn’t gain much attention, maybe due to the fact that there weren’t as many lights or as much excitement around them.

The first night, the weather wasn’t perfect but the drizzling rain didn’t phase the energetic, young crowd. The second day we participated in a “paint blast” count down, but by then everyone was already covered in paint, the crowd went crazy for the gallons of pink and green slime-like paint. Luckily, the venue was large, giving the fans space to take a break from the thickness of the crowd, and the mud that the paint and the rain created. Over all, Life in Color was not a let down, the paint cannons and all of the fans created a like-no-other experience. I look forward to the next festival!

Comment from one of the many fans - "Crazy! Fun! Adrenaline pumping ride! Super cool songs, bumping bass, raging crowd and jaw dropping fun! Very few concerts in the world offer the fun and interactivity of life in color. If you like dance or electronic music in any way this is a must see event. This was my second time going and I will go again!"

Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival 2014 event highlights include:

The Butcher Block is a warm and friendly restaurant

located at 7000 W Camino Real, Boca Raton, FL 33433 - (561) 409-3035. The hostess, manager and wait-staff were pleasant, courteous and attentive. You can't help but enjoy that part of it. To start, the generous cocktails, martinis and wine list are priced nicely to go along with the great food.

John Savarese (formerly of the Flagler Steak House at the Breakers in Palm Beach) is the new head chef running the kitchen. We were offered a fine sampling of many of the new menu items. The Polenta & Crab Wonton with roasted red pepper truffle butter appetizer was delicious and flavorful. Then the Fried Green Tomatoes (arugula, radicchio, roasted red peppers, goat cheese and more) were perfectly prepared. Mom's Meatball and the Beef and Veal Bolognaise with whipped Ricotta was a meal in itself. But wait, there's more... Out comes the lemon spiked farro, shiitake mushroom Pan Roasted Salmon - mouth watering, seared and medium rare - perfect... After a short break to relax, out comes the Braised Short Rib in a cauliflower puree, braised fennel, roasted for 3.5 hours, in a chicken stock, lemon grass, garlic and other seasonings, it melted in our mouth.

I've been here before so I could not help but notice some very recent improvements around the bar area now with a new full cover awning canvas and improved lighting. So, they are clearly in the process of making some changes which will clearly add to the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. They also offer a great happy hour and lunch menu. Give them a try, I think you'll be pleased. Go to for menu and other details.
