9th Annual Downtown Orlando Food & Wine Festival Recap

Cirque Du Soleil -- Kurios Cabinet of Curiosities : Hard Rock Stadium - Dec 10 through Jan 29

Kurios is a winner right out of the chute! Likely the best Cirque shows I have seen. I have seen a half a dozen or so of Cirque shows in Vegas as well as in Miami. This was clearly my favorite... Every seat in the tent had a great view, plenty of air conditioning and the refreshments were par... Make sure you get there early. If you only get there in time for the show than you’re missing part of the full experience. KURIOS’s pre-show really ushered in an atmosphere of pure excitement. You came into a big outdoor area filled with photo ops of performers on stilts, with giant wheeled bicycles and so much more. Then, servers came around with intoxicating red and white wines, spring water and a variety of appetizer tyoe food stuffs.

The acts ranged from singers, comedians, contorsioniss, acrobats, trampolines, bicycles, high wire, jugglers that were amazing - beyond the quality of anything i have seen in one place at anny time. There were also many acrobats which had me cringing and applauding in unison. When each of these mesmerizing and death defying performances happened there was still other things going on so your eyes and your attention were all over the place taking it all in.

It was really magical. From the lady singing the entire time to the crazy yo-yo act. We really enjoyed it. The action, costumes, show content and variety was unbelievable. I recall the intermission was long enough to refresh your drink and make it back to your seat. From beginning to end, there was action, comedy, and definitely a departure from reality which is the whole point of the show - to transport you to a magical place where crazy acrobatics are the norm, never a dull moment.

In an alternate yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, a Seeker discovers that in order to glimpse the marvels that lie just below the surface, we must first learn to close our eyes.

In his larger-than-life curio cabinet, the Seeker is convinced that there exists a hidden, invisible world – a place where the craziest ideas and the grandest dreams lie waiting. A collection of otherworldly characters suddenly steps into his makeshift mechanical world. When the outlandish, benevolent characters turn his world upside down with a touch of poetry and humor in an attempt to ignite the Seeker’s imagination, his curios jump to life one by one before his very eyes.

What if by engaging our imagination and opening our minds we could unlock the door to a world of wonders? For event information and tickets, please visit the Cirque Du Soleil web site at Cirque Du Soleil. Come on out and enjoy this wonderful event.

Dream Cars & Cocktails Trump National Resort March 4th

March 4th 2017….Dream Cars and Cocktails 2017 went off without a hitch. It was a gorgeous evening in Jupiter, FL as our amazing Special Olympic Athletes, PBSO, ELS for Autism kids and special military guests stepped onto the red carpet and shook hands with our lovely Emcee, WPBF’s Erin Guy. They were the true celebrities of the night and it was ALL SMILES. Huge smiles. It was a bit teary eyed for the rest of us. The look on their face as the crowd cheered for them and asked for autographs was priceless! Over 350 guests emptied their pockets, bidding on fabulous auction items from adorable electric mini cars, to champagne day cruises on mega yachts, exotic vacations, high-end jewels, beautiful artwork and much more.

The entertainment kicked off with Speed Painter Dale Henry, quick to the canvas creating an exquisite eagle, and a Ferrari and a McLaren while Dave Bray sang the national anthem. Following these talented gentlemen, we were delighted to honor a very special veteran, Congressman Brian Mast. As he engaged with the athletes, and answered some questions, he then shared some heart felt words about supporting each other, our country and praised the Dream Ride Foundation for it’s work.

The smiles grew and the excitement continued when the athletes hit the dance floor with LED robots from Light up the Night Ricky Rico, an incredible performance from Electronic Violinist Timothee Lovelock, favorite tunes DJ Supreme, and Shake Down Entertainment.

It was an evening to remember, celebrate, honor and be thankful. The Hometown Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) charitable foundation dedicated to supporting the community in conjunction with Bozzuto’s Inc. and its IGA retailers. The Hometown Foundation, Inc. supports six core community needs. Its focus and commitment center around the military, children in need, intellectual disabilities, life threatening illness, emergency response personnel, and animal rescue.

For Founder Michael A. Bozzuto, his commitment and passion for making dreams come true and opening doors for incredible experiences for those in need is just another day at the office.

FLOSSTRADAMUS Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado

Reported by Kiersten Pacelli

After debuting at Stubbs in Austin, Texas last year HDYFEST moved to the beautiful state of Colorado to the famed Red Rocks Amphitheater for the 2016 edition. Flosstradamus, the trap duo, was joined by their friends Snails, Valentino Khan, Chill Harris and of course a venue full of passionate fans.

The Mile High City doesn’t lack preparation when it comes to 4/20— there was definitely not a shortage of events for this holiday. Of all of the options though, in my opinion, Flosstradamus was the obvious choice. The annual 4/20 show at Red Rocks is one of the most anticipated events for Coloradans. It was a major turn around from the usual reggae or hip-hop show— but the heavy bass sure didn’t disappoint.

Snails came on stage when it was still light enough to be able to appreciate the background, and sunset, behind the geologically formed amphitheater. He played the best set of the festival, in my opinion again— this could be because of the surprise appearance from Dom with Big Gigantic. The electronic funk combined with the live saxophone was a scene to remember for years to come, and luckily I got it all on video!

Following, Flosstradamus put on a spectacular show for their huge sea of fans. Not only did they take up the entire width of the stage with their stage set and props, they also brought along lasers, floodlights, and a t-shirt gun. They went all out with their costumes as well— the scene looked like it came straight from a military base. I do believe the music itself could have been better, but that was probably because it wasn’t loud enough. The sound ordinances put a heavy limitation on the concert and right at 10:00 it was obvious that the rules had kicked in. As unfortunate as it was, Flosstradamus still put on a great show and most definitely didn’t disappoint, you could tell how excited the two of them were to be there.

Although it was a bit chilly, and it was a Wednesday, HDYFEST 2016 was certainly a wild party. The fans left all the energy they had at the amphitheater, forgetting about the long walk back to the car— at least it was down hill this time :)

Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - Earlier this month, BACARDÍ opened up a nationwide job search to recruit a "Minister of Rum" - someone who shares the brand's unique passion and spirit to help revolutionize the rum category - and today, at the annual BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition in Berlin, BACARDÍ has announced that the role has been filled by none other than internationally acclaimed DJ and producer Jillionaire of Major Lazer. Furthermore, the brand has unveiled a new limited edition BACARDÍ Major Lazer Rum, created in partnership with the music trio and infused with Caribbean flavors.

BACARDÍ announced a creative, experiential collaboration with Major Lazer earlier this year. The creative concept behind the partnership is called the "Sound of Rum" which began as a way to connect BACARDÍ's island roots to modern music, but it has become more than music.  It's a cultural and creative movement that only a band like Major Lazer can help create.  The Sound of Rum is the unique intersection of music and rum, where the two blend to bring people together and ignite the world through celebration.  It's a movement of sound that blurs the lines between reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and electronic music to bring fans of different genres together.

When BACARDÍ started working through the Sound of Rum concept with Major Lazer, they immediately noticed Jillionaire's knowledge, expertise and genuine passion for the spirit, its roots and craftsmanship, and approached him to consider the open role for Minister of Rum at the Company.  Bacardi Limited is built on the legacy of an enduring family who persevered against the odds. Don Facundo Bacardí Massó revolutionized the spirits industry in 1862 by creating the world's first, light-bodied rum in Santiago de Cuba. Jillionaire shares the same unique passion and spirit to help revolutionize the rum category.  COMPLETE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Little Chalet Restaurant in Downtown Boca Raton is a Sophisticated Experience

Aptly named for its decor and personality of the staff and food. We really felt comfortable upon arrival, as if we was in Switzerland all-be-it, a bit warmer weather. Once inside, it is very warm and charming. The atmosphere is classy, the bar area is cozy and the drinks are well made with a great selection of wines and spirits. At the bar we ordered the house specialty, a Whistle Pig Fig Old Fashioned. This well-crafted imbibement is concocted with Whistle Pig 10 Year Bourbon, Fee Brothers Angostura bitters, muddled fig jam and orange slice served on the rocks garnished with orange peel and filthy cherry. Ahhhhh... an awesome start.

We then moved to our table for dinner and first sampled a variety of appetizers - nice plates with awesome presentation. The Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Chorizo sausage and beets were amazing. As enjoyable, were the Pan Seared Scallops with lima bean succotash, crispy pancetta, lemon jalapeno butter. Lots of flavors to enjoy. The fresh bread and olive oil dipping sauce was delicious as well.

For the main course, they delivered a Bone in Filet served with crisp potatoes, Syrah sauce, Maitake mushroom tempura. The filet was cooked perfect medium (just the way I like it), to the bone and throughout the filet. Our table also tried the [huge] Braised Short Ribs - featuring fall-off-the-bone meat with goat cheese smashed potatoes, beef gravy, wild mushrooms were cooked to perfection. Another table favorite was the Confit of Duck Leg, cauliflower puree, broccoli rabe, port & cherry sauce, fried duck egg. Generally, I am not a duck fan but I will say, this was exquisite... We agreed that the dinner experience was great and next visit I would venture to try the Sea Bass or Faroe Island Salmon which had great presentations.

They provided a nice desert fondue that included a variety of sweet flavors and treats - milk and dark chocolate, peanut butter, S'mores, cookies and cream and for dipping lots of fresh fruit and assorted sweets for dipping.

Overall it was a great culinary experience. They offer much more of a selection of house and menu specialties than we can present in this review. The management and staff are friendly, involved and provide exceptional, impeccable service. We would recommend you try out this place.

In additional to all that, they have a pianist (Richard) playing live in the bar area, and his music can be heard over speakers through-out the restaurant at a very nice level of volume adding to the ambiance. He may wander around the restaurant on break and stop by to say 'hi' at your table. And does take requests.
